Brightmoor Arts Camp
In July and August, Seven Mile Music holds the eight week Brightmoor Arts Camp at the Mission: City Community Center, providing completely free five-day-a-week music lessons to the children of Brightmoor. In order to put on this camp for the Brightmoor community, at no cost to the students who enroll, Seven Mile Music relies on the kindness of our supporters and sponsors. If you would like to support free music education in Detroit, please consider donating to our GoFundMe, which is currently raising funds for our second annual Brightmoor Arts Camp!

Weekly Music Program
Throughout the school year, Seven Mile Music visits various locations in Brightmoor to teach free music lessons. Seven Mile Music teachers travel on Wednesdays to Murphy Performance Academy, a charter school at 23901 Fenkell street, and on Fridays to Mission: City, a community center at 20405 Schoolcraft. Instruction is provided by student volunteers from the University of Michigan, all instruments are provided by Seven Mile Music, and the program is completely free for the children.
The Fundraising Director of Seven Mile Music, Benjamin Greenberg, founded the Brightmoor Beats drumline to give students in Brightmoor the opportunity to learn percussion, bringing in his personal experience from the Michigan Marching Band as well as the Drum Corps. Brightmoor Beats holds its rehearsals on Wednesdays at Mission: City, and as with the other Seven Mile Music affiliated programs, is free of charge for any student interested in playing.
Seven Mile Arts
The Publicity Director of Seven Mile Music, Cecilie Simonsen, leads a creative arts program during the school year on Tuesdays at Mission: City. The arts program centers around weekly projects where students draw, paint, and sculpt, and the projects often incorporate creative writing as well.
